Course Description

Course Objectives

  1. The course aims at introducing Spanish as a foreign language, curated to give an experience and feel of the language to the students at a basic level (A1) and gauge their intrests in the same
  2. To give them an opportunity to learn of the many benefits of learning a foreign language, the most important ones being, that it improves the cognitive skills as well as the marketable skill in the global economy and helps expand the linguistic repertoire
  3. To engage the students in a fun manner by using visual stimulus, role plays and texts 
  4. Expose them to the culture and importance of Spanish Influences in the field of music, dance,  movies, literature, gastronomy etc. 
  5. Incorporating the four main skills(destrezas): reading, writing, listening and speaking/oral skills to enable them to have a better understanding of the language 

 

Course Outcomes

  1. The student is able to introduce ones self and talk about family and friends including professions
  2. Give information about his daily routine, hobbies, and leisure time
  3. Give a basic description of people and talk about the existence of places and things
  4. Ask and tell time, count numbers and give contact details such as the mobile no, email id, etc
  5. Express emotions, likes and dislikes
  6. Frame grammatically correct and simple sentences in the present tense, using verbs, adjectives, nouns, and frequently used expressions 
  7. Order food/coffee at a restaurant

 

Course Content

La Identidad (identity)

  1. Introduction to Spanish language
  2. The alphabet and pronunciation, vocabulary
  3. Numbers 0-20, personal pronouns
  4. Greetings, good-bye, courtesy, question words (what, how, where), Introduce oneself

Las Relaciones (relations)

  1. My family, adjectives, possessives, nouns (gender and Numbers)
  2. Verb Ser /llamarse /Tener conjugation and its uses, vocabulary: The family, classroom, colours

Habitat (surroundings)

  1. Describing your surroundings, house and neighbourhood
  2. Indefinite articles
  3. Verb haber, estar
  4. Shops, places in the city and neighbourhood

Los Habitos (daily habits /schedule/time/leisure)

  1. Daily Routine, parts of the day, the time
  2. Irregular verbs: ir, hacer, jugar, salir, venir
  3. Frequency of activities
  4. Activities in the free time, sports activities, expressions related to leisure

La Comida (Food)

  1. Vocabulary for food, meals of the day
  2. Eating out: ordering food at a restaurant
  3. Paying the bill

  1. Important phrases for students to use during class (to raise doubts etc)
  2. Class Instructions for students (read, write, listen etc)
  3. To greet, bid goodbye and express Courtesy
  4. To count numbers 0-20 and exchange mobile numbers
  5. To present oneself and give details using question words what, how, which)

  5. Vocabulary: class objects, computer, colours, months of the year, prepositions
