Course Description

Course Objectives

The A1 level in German language certifies that the candidates have acquired very basic language skills and corresponds to the first level (A1) on the six-level scale of competence laid down in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

 

Course Outcomes

  1. Communicate in a simple manner in German if a person you are talking to is speaks slowly and clearly
  2. Understand and use familiar, everyday and common expressions and simple sentences (e.g. information about yourself and your family or about shopping, work and your immediate surroundings)
  3. Introduce yourself and others, as well as ask others about themselves, e.g. where they live, who they know and what they own

 

Course Content

Unit 1: Guten Tag! (Good day)

  1. To greet and say goodbye, introduce yourself and others, to speak about yourself and others 
  2. Numbers from 0-20, to give email address and telephone numbers , Alphabets from A- Z, to spell names
  3. To speak about countries and languages
  4. Grammar topics: Verbs, personal pronouns, questions and answers

 

Unit 2: Freunde, Kollegen und ich (Friends, colleagues, and I)

  1. To speak about abouhobbies’s, fixing up meeting with a friend/ colleague, days of the week, to speak about work, jobs, and work timings 
  2. Numbers from 20 onwards, how to fill a form. 
  3. Grammar topics: Nominative case, Nouns (Singular and Plural), Verb Conjugations

 

Unit 3: In Hamburg

  1. To name places and monuments, to ask questions about a place and answer them, modes of transport 
  2. To ask about things, to ask the directions and describe, to speak about months and seasons
  3. Grammar topics: Imperative form

 

Unit 4: Guten Appetit! (Have a good meal)

  1. To speak about food, to plan shopping for grocery 
  2. To initiate conversations regarding shopping, conversations about meals, to speak about favoriterite food 
  3. Grammar topic: Accusative case

 

Unit 5: Alltag und Familie (Daily routine and family)

  1. To read the clock, to speak about days and months, to speak about the family 
  2. To fix up an appointment, to take an appointment on the phone, to apologize for a delay
  3. To speak about countries and languages
  4. Grammar topics: Modal verbs, prepositions related to the clock, possessive pronouns in the nominative and accusative case

 

Unit 6: Zeit mit Freunden (Time with friends)

  1. To speak about free time, to understand the date, to speak about birthdays, to understand and write an invitation 
  2. To order food and pay for it, to speak about an event/incident 
  3. Grammar topics: Separable verbs, accusative personal pronouns, past tense forms of haben and sein, preposition für in the accusative case
