In a world marked by ongoing conflicts and turbulence, the importance of peace cannot be overstated. The HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) World Peace Summit, held in Seoul, South Korea, provided a crucial platform for leaders, influencers and advocates to come together and address the pressing challenges that threaten global stability. Dr. Aditi Mishal, Director of the Centre for Sustainability at ATLAS SkillTech University, had the honour of representing India at this prestigious event.

The Urgency of Peace in Troubled Times

HWPL’s World Peace Summit is an annual gathering dedicated to fostering world peace through dialogue, cooperation and advocacy. This year’s 9th anniversary celebration focused on the theme of “Implementation of Multidimensional Strategies for Institutional Peace.” The summit served as a beacon of hope, emphasising the urgency of prioritising peace over conflict and highlighting the need for collective efforts, diplomacy and international cooperation to achieve lasting solutions.

A Confluence of Leaders and Visionaries

The summit brought together a diverse and influential group of global leaders, thought leaders, influencers and passionate advocates for peace. Leaders from various sectors, including politics, education, religion, women’s groups, youth groups and the media, engaged in meaningful discussions aimed at implementing strategies within their respective initiatives.

Pursuing Institutional Peace

A key concept discussed at the summit was “Institutional Peace.” This approach advocates for international agreements aimed at establishing sustainable peace based on the principles outlined in the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). The DPCW serves as a tool for promoting a culture of understanding and cooperation among nations and peoples.

Women Leading the Way

One notable aspect of the summit was the International Women’s Peace Conference, which highlighted the vital role of women in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Women, who are disproportionately affected by conflicts and wars, bring unique perspectives, skills and experiences to the table. Their involvement ensures a more comprehensive understanding of the complex root causes of conflicts and promotes inclusivity and diversity in peacebuilding initiatives.

A Case Study in Peace: Mindanao, Philippines

A case study in Mindanao, Philippines, showcased HWPL’s successful efforts in building trust among different factions and fostering unity. The organisation’s commitment to making a tangible impact on the ground and promoting sustainable peace in conflict-ridden areas was evident.

Faith in Peace

The International Religious Leaders Peace Conference, which brought together leaders from various faith traditions, emphasised the unifying potential of spirituality in fostering peace. The conference transcended cultural and religious boundaries, highlighting the common values of compassion and unity present in different belief systems.
