Fashioning Dreams: Marc Robinson’s Vision for the Fashion Designer Awards

Renowned model, fashion choreographer and event director Marc Robinson recently graced ATLAS SkillTech University to enlighten 3rd and 4th-year fashion design students about the Fashion Designer Awards 2024 Student Edition, an initiative he spearheads in collaboration with Pepe Jeans. Robinson, a trailblazer in the fashion industry, shared his vision behind the awards, aiming to recognise and reward the next generation of fashion designers, providing them with a launchpad for their careers.

The Journey Begins: Registration and Deadlines

Robinson and his team have already kicked off the activation process for the awards, visiting various fashion design institutions across India, including ATLAS SkillTech University. The competition is open to final year graduating students from fashion design colleges nationwide, with a registration deadline of March 16th. Pre-final year students are also welcome to assist their counterparts.

Theme – ‘Take Me Somewhere’

The theme for this year’s competition is “Take me somewhere,” inspired by Pepe Jeans’ roots in the vibrant city of London. Students are encouraged to explore urban territories and hotspots worldwide, incorporating the balance between style and monotony, symbolised by the iconic denim color—blue.

Rules and Event Information

Participants will submit mood boards and entries based on the theme, with a jury shortlisting the top 10 finalists. These finalists will receive financial support of Rs. 20,000 each for the construction of their two garments, keeping the theme in mind. However, they must adhere to strict guidelines: no outsourcing, a close resemblance to their submitted mood boards and constructive mentorship from college professors or HODs.

Evaluation Criteria and Industry Experts

The competition’s evaluation criteria include creativity, marketability, relevance, concept, presentation, functionality, technical ability and design aesthetics. A panel of industry experts will serve as the jury, ensuring a fair and comprehensive assessment of the participants’ creations.

Rewards and Internship Opportunities

The top two winners stand a chance to receive cash prizes and an internship with Pepe Jeans or one of the esteemed designers from the jury. However, the garments created by each finalist will remain the property of the organisers, with the possibility of being featured in the students’ annual graduation show.
