At ATLAS School of Law, the classroom is designed to reflect the realities of the courtroom. In line with this philosophy, BBA LL.B. (Hons.) students recently participated in a masterclass titled “Uncovering the Truth: The Forensic Foundation for the Practice of Law,” led by Ms. Riva Pocha—Forensic Consultant, Educator, and Founder of FACTS, with over two decades of experience in forensic science and criminal investigation.

Uncovering the Truth: Why Forensic Science is Integral to the Future of Legal Practice

The session brought into focus a critical shift in modern legal systems: the growing reliance on scientific evidence to establish truth. Moving beyond theoretical understanding, the masterclass offered students a deep dive into how forensic science strengthens the credibility and precision of legal proceedings.

“Forensic science is no longer an auxiliary to the law, it is central to how truth is established in modern courtrooms.”

The Power of Evidence-Based Investigation

Through real-world examples and case-based discussions, students explored how forensic evidence has played a decisive role in landmark criminal investigations. The session highlighted how the integration of scientific methods into legal processes enhances the reliability of outcomes and reinforces public trust in the justice system.

A key area of focus was the importance of maintaining the integrity of evidence. Students were introduced to the concept of the chain of custody, learning how proper documentation and handling are essential for evidence to remain admissible in court. The discussion also unpacked the Locard Exchange Principle, demonstrating how every contact leaves a trace, and how even the smallest pieces of evidence can become pivotal in reconstructing events.

“Every interaction leaves behind a trace; understanding and interpreting that trace is where science meets the law.”

Exploring Core Forensic Disciplines

The masterclass further explored core forensic disciplines including DNA analysis, toxicology, ballistics, questioned document examination and cyber forensics. By connecting these disciplines to their practical application in trials, the session offered students a holistic understanding of how forensic experts support judicial processes.

This exposure enabled students to see how interdisciplinary knowledge strengthens legal arguments and contributes to more robust, evidence-backed outcomes in court.

Industry-Integrated Learning

Complex and evolving domains such as forensic science cannot be fully understood through textbooks alone, they require direct engagement with practitioners who bring real-world insight, experience and nuance into the learning process.

At ATLAS School of Law, such engagements are an essential part of the learning journey, ensuring that students are not only academically equipped but also professionally prepared to navigate the demands of contemporary legal practice.

Shaping Future-Ready Legal Professionals

The masterclass reinforced a powerful idea: the future of legal education lies at the intersection of disciplines, where knowledge is applied, tested and brought to life.

Through experiences like these, ATLAS School of Law continues to shape future-ready legal professionals who are equipped to engage with the complexities of modern justice systems.
